HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A few new laws are now in effect that will change how much you pay for most groceries, baby products, and menstrual items.

The state sales tax on food drops from 3% to 2%. But this doesn’t include everything in the grocery store. Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, hot foods, or hot food products ready for immediate consumption aren’t covered by the drop in sales tax. And cities and counties can still charge their own sales tax on food. They can lower their rates, but they can’t raise them above current rates…
