A Montgomery man has been convicted of murder in a 2023 shooting of an unarmed man at a restaurant, prosecutors say.
Juqwarn Hartwell, 31, was found guilty of murdering an unarmed man “during a senseless and unprovoked shooting” inside a restaurant on Folmar Parkway, District Attorney Azzie Oliver said.
On May 22, 2023, Hartwell began arguing and demeaning a restaurant employee who was an acquaintance of Rondarius McQueen, she said. McQueen intervened on the employee’s behalf, which resulted in a brief exchange of words between him and Hartwell. The situation escalated when Hartwell pulled a gun from his crossbody bag and fired at McQueen, Oliver said. According to witnesses’ testimony and video surveillance, McQueen was unarmed.
