Jury finds Montgomery County man guilty in Waffle House homicide

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A Montgomery County jury has found Juqwarn Hartwell guilty of shooting another man to death at a Waffle House in May 2023.

The shooting killed Rodarius McQueen. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said Hartwell began arguing with a Waffle House employee, prompting McQueen to intervene. The confrontation later escalated, with Hartwell pulling a gun from his bag and shooting McQueen, who was unarmed, according to witnesses and video surveillance.

After the shooting, the district attorney’s office said Hartwell and his cousin ran from the scene with their food. McQueen was rushed to the hospital by friends and family but later died from his injuries…
