First Alert Weather: Summer heat not letting up just yet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Next 24 Hours: First Alert AccuTrack shows some passing clouds streaming in from the north tonight, but we continue to stay rain-free for now. A stray shower is possible overnight and into Monday morning, especially across west Alabama.

Unfortunately, most of us will remain dry with not enough moisture to provide any relief for the parched ground. Temperatures will start off comfortably mild in the 60s tomorrow morning with afternoon highs back in the low 90s. Though Monday will feature some passing clouds still, make sure you wear sunscreen with plenty of hot sunshine around.

The Week Ahead: Most of the week will be hot and mainly dry with afternoon highs climbing into the low to mid 90s each day. Rain chances still look unimpressive with just a 10-20% chance or less of an isolated shower each day. An approaching disturbance could eventually bring another shot of a few showers and storms by Saturday, but models differ on the coverage and timing of any hope for rain. Regardless of any minor changes in the forecast, drought conditions do not look to improve much over the next week with future rainfall totals at less than a tenth of an inch. So, make sure you water your lawns and gardens thoroughly in the coming days.

Tropical Update: Despite an unusually quiet peak of hurricane season earlier this week, we continue to monitor a tropical wave moving through the Central Atlantic Ocean. This disturbance now has a high chance of development as it travels north and westward over the next week. Most models seem to keep any future tropical system out to sea, but we will watch its progress closely.

Beyond the 7-Day: We will also keep an eye a little closer to home, where long-range data suggests at least some unsettled weather along the Gulf Coast toward the end of the month…
