Alabama man arrested for shooting medical helicopter says he thought it was a drone

The Alabama man accused of firing on a medical flight thought he was shooting at something else, according to court records.

Peter Matthew Ellison, 48, is charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle after a nurse was struck by a ricochet bullet during a predawn medical flight landing in an Autauga County pasture on Wednesday.

Court records state Ellison “shot multiple rounds at what he believed to be a drone was a LifeFlight medivac helicopter.”…
