Alabama secures $79 million for electric vehicle infrastructure

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) has announced the approval of its new state plan for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Fund by the Federal Highway Administration. The plan, approved on September 9, 2025, outlines the state’s strategy to receive $79,308,285 over the next five years through the federal NEVI formula program.

This program will provide up to 80% federal funding, with at least 20% non-federal matching required from grant applicants. ADECA will administer these funds through a competitive grant program aimed at enhancing electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the state.
