There is a concern for severe weather across West Alabama and a significant portion of the state on Wednesday, September 24, and Thursday, September 25.
Severe Weather Outlook
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has West Alabama under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for strong to severe thunderstorms on Wednesday. As of now, the Marginal Risk for Thursday covers a small portion of the southernmost counties in West Alabama and is mainly confined to most of South Alabama.
Main Threats
The main threat for active weather on Wednesday is for “damaging winds and gusts up to 60 mph,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that “heavier storms will be capable of producing strong, gusty winds and some hail.”

Relief on the Way for the Moderate to Severe Drought
Along with the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms comes some good news. There is a moderate to severe drought in place across the state, and many locations across will see between one and two inches of much-needed rain.
