Alabama Man Charged with Murder in El Paso Bar Shooting Death

An Alabama man has been charged with murder for the shooting death of another man outside an El Paso bar earlier this year. Terrence Mathews, 38, was arrested in Alabama on Monday and faces murder charges in the killing of 31-year-old Damian Arce, the El Paso Police Department reported. The fatal incident occurred on June 1 in the parking lot of the Chit Chat Bar, as disclosed by KFOX-TV.

Following Mathews’s arrest, he was extradited back to El Paso where he was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on Tuesday, authorities confirmed. His bond has been set at $1 million, and as per the latest updates from the jail records, Mathews currently remains in custody. At this point, no attorney information is available in court records, according to El Paso Times.

The El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit has been investigating the case since June, when patrol officers conducting a bar check at the Chit Chat Bar heard a gunshot outside the establishment. Upon responding, they found Arce with a gunshot wound in the parking lot, resulting in his transportation to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
