State police are investigating after a Mississippi woman and her young child were found dead in a river in west Alabama.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency announced the case on Friday afternoon in a press release, saying the investigation began as a missing persons matter in Mississippi.

State police in that state say Shardee McGill, 32, and her child were last believed to be in Jackson, Miss., on Sunday, Sept. 21.
