Highlands Medical Center welcomes doctors through state scholarship initiative

A new scholarship initiative is helping ensure that Alabama’s rural communities have access to essential medical care.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Medical Scholarship Program funds the final two years of medical school for students who pledge to work at least three years in underserved areas in Alabama.

Since its launch, the program has placed 60 doctors in critical fields, including Primary Care, Mental Health, Family Medicine, and Dentistry, providing care in communities that often lack specialty services.
