Gov. Ivey Awards $9.3 Million to Strengthen Traffic Safety Efforts Across Alabama

Montgomery, AL – Governor Kay Ivey has announced nearly $9.3 million in grants to enhance statewide enforcement of traffic laws and promote safe driving practices. The funding supports a coordinated effort among the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and four regional highway safety offices to conduct targeted patrols and public safety campaigns.

The grants will fund overtime for police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and state troopers to increase patrols during peak travel times. Enforcement will focus on speeding, seat belt use, and impaired driving.

“Those who are disobeying traffic laws or driving while impaired needlessly put themselves and everyone else on the road at risk,” Gov. Ivey said. “Working together with these partners, our goals are to change driving behaviors and reduce fatalities to the best of our ability, helping ensure that everyone safely arrives at their destination.”…
