The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said Friday that the federal government shutdown is forcing it to close some parks, boat ramps and campgrounds in its Mobile District, which spans four Southern states.
Alabama appears to be getting off easy as neighboring states bear the brunt of the closures. One area affected by multiple closures is a lake on the Alabama-Georgia line, where affected facilities were within easy reach of Alabama boat traffic.
The Mobile District covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi as well as some international territory. The Corps manages more than 450 recreational areas across the four states…
