If you do Mardi Gras, flaunting the fact is half the fun. And Alabamians may soon have a whole new way to show off the state’s Carnival connections: A Mardi Gras-themed license plate.
Propelled by the organizational efforts of a Saraland enthusiast, the plate received preliminary approval last month at a Montgomery meeting of the Alabama Joint License Plate Committee. On Nov. 1 it became available for “pre-commitment orders,” part of a process to gauge interest. If 1,000 buyers sign up before Nov. 1, 2026, then the plate will go into production.
It’s a busy process: Other plates vying to cross that 1,000-order hurdle cater to Georgia Tech alumni, respiratory therapists, the Friends of Moody Schools Foundation, Make-A-Wish Alabama, the Alabama SWAT Foundation and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
