MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Hundreds of thousands of Alabamians, including approximately 53,000 residents in Montgomery County, are facing food insecurity as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits remain suspended due to the ongoing government shutdown.
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed addressed the situation during his monthly press conference today, highlighting the impact on the River Region.
Adding to the economic strain, he says roughly 4,000 federal employees in the city of Montgomery are currently without their paychecks.
