Alabama May Cut PBS, Kids’ Shows at Risk

Thousands of Alabama children could miss out on key educational programing soon. Alabama is considering cutting it’s ties with PBS.

Shows like Authur, Sesame Street, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and more could soon disappear from televisions across the state with an upcoming decision. According to US News, Alabama Public Television is considering ending their partnership with PBS. The discussion is said to connoted during an upcoming meeting on November 18th.

“We have to figure out what our options are,” said the chairman of the commission Ferris W. Stephens in the US News article. “Before we decide those things, I just think we need a lot more information.” Stephens said he does not expect a vote at the November meeting.

Over the course of a year, 58% of all U.S. television households – more than 130 million people – watch PBS via traditional television according to the PBS Foundation. The foundation also lists an average of 15.5 million monthly users and 345 million monthly streams across PBS KIDS’ digital platforms…
