Alabama AG indicts Walker County duo for $680k theft from Providence Water Authority

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall on Tuesday announced the indictments of two Walker County residents accused of stealing more than $680,000 from the Providence Water Authority.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Sharon Lei Windham, 61, faces two counts of first-degree theft of property and one count of first-degree theft of services. Her son, Cody Warren Windham, 40, has been charged with one count of first-degree theft of property. All charges are Class B felonies.

The indictments allege that Sharon Windham stole $539,804.10 in customer cash payments intended for the Authority, failed to pay her own water bill totaling $3,975.55, and unlawfully provided water services to others valued at $17,925.49. Authorities said her mother, Marie Windham, 81, who was employed by the Authority and subcontracted her work to Sharon, is not facing any charges…
