MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – An Alabama lawmaker has prefiled a bill ahead of the 2026 legislative session that would allow Alabamians with certain medical diagnoses to have a discrete symbol on their driver’s license or nondriver identification card.
Rep. Ontario Tillman (D-Bessmer) said House Bill 66 is meant to minimize miscommunications between Alabamians with communicative barriers and law enforcement.
“The ultimate goal is to provide the best legislation to help our vulnerable population,” he said. “Anyone from law enforcement or anyone who may experience or come in contact can be able to say ‘okay, this is the type of person we’re dealing with and making sure that we are sensitive to their needs.’”…
