Hawkins native receives prestigious veteran’s honor

A Hawkins County native who served with distinction in the US Army during the Vietnam War was honored by the state of Alabama as part of a Veterans Day presentation earlier this month.

Robert Neill Cooper, born Dec. 14, 1941 in Church Hill, received the 2025 Governor’s Annual Alabama Veteran of the Year Award, an honor presented by the Governor of that state on an annual basis. Cooper was representing the Vietnam Veterans of America, an organization dedicated to supporting members of the Armed Forces who served in that conflict.
