Pedestrian fatally struck by car on Alabama highway

A pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday morning in Lowndes County as he was walking in a major highway, state troopers say.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 4:55 a.m. Dec. 3, said Capt. Jeremy Burkett, spokesman for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. William J. Atkins, 25, of Orrville, who was walking in the roadway, was fatally injured after being struck by the 2021 Honda Civic driven by Reneca C. Gregory, 45, Selma, Burkett said.
