82 Truckers detained in Alabama ICE operation, 12 without a license

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN)– Alabama partnered with ICE in the latest crackdown on both immigration and noncompliance in the trucking industry.

Governor Kay Ivey announced the results of a recent operation in joint efforts by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) through ALEA’s Motor Carrier Safety Unit (MCSU).

Between October 27th and November 18th, 82 people were detained during Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) inspections in two targeted Strike Force Operations.

According to a release from Governor Ivey’s office, ALEA focused on high-crash rural interstate corridors, where commercial vehicle traffic is heavy and safety risks are elevated. During these inspections, 242 people were referred to ICE for immigration status checks, and of those, 82 were detained by ICE based on their immigration status. Among the 82 detained, 12 did not have a Driver License of any kind and the remaining held out-of-state licenses…
