New guidelines raise concerns around nursing degree recognition, loans

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – New federal guidelines on what is considered a professional degree are raising concerns in Alabama’s nursing industry.

In November, the U.S. Department of Education released a list of professional degrees, which included pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, chiropractic, law, medicine, optometry, osteopathic medicine, podiatry and theology.

With nursing being left of the list, nursing students will not be able to take out as much in loans to get that degree…
