The wait could soon be over for medical cannabis in Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — The wait for medical marijuana in Alabama is almost over. The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission awarded dispensary licenses to some retailers at a meeting in Montgomery today. Officials said that will make the product available for patients in the next two to three months.

“Today shows that we are moving forward,” said Amanda Taylor, medical cannabis patient and advocate. For Taylor, that step forward means relief is on the way for thousands of Alabamians.

Three dispensary licenses were awarded to business owners statewide- GP6 Wellness, RJK Holdings, and CCS of Alabama- allowing them to sell products like gummies to patients who have been referred by doctors.

Taylor said medical cannabis is not as harmful as pharmaceuticals. “People need to understand that it’s not about getting high. It’s about having a better quality of life.”…
