A new report found that Alabama put more people to death in 2025 than all but one other state.
The annual report from the Death Penalty Information Center, published Monday, also noted that states which impose capital punishment are intensifying efforts to expand its use even as public support for it continues to decline.
“The data are really interesting this year in that they show two, very different trends,” said Robin Maher, executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center, a national nonprofit that is focused on capital punishment. “On the one hand we have public support for the death penalty continuing to drop. We have opposition to the death penalty continuing to grow.”…
