Buddhist monks on 2,300-mile ‘Walk for Peace’ make their way through Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Over the last few weeks, a group of Buddhist monks have walked hundreds of miles across the Southeast in an effort to call for peace.

Now, these monks are making their way through Alabama.

The monks left their home at the Huong Dao Temple in Fort Worth, Texas on Oct. 26 on a 2,300-mile trek to Washington, D.C. as part of their “Walk for Peace.” The group has chronicled their journey on social media, as well as their furry companion, Aloka.

On Dec. 15, the monks arrived in Alabama, where they found shelter at the Holiness Tabernacle in Cuba, and onward through Demopolis and Gallion…
