Deaths of Mississippi woman, 3-year-old daughter found drowned in Alabama river ruled a murder-suicide

The deaths of a Mississippi woman and her 3-year-old daughter, found more than 100 miles away in an Alabama river, have been ruled a murder-suicide.

The bodies of Shardee McGill, 32, and her daughter, Janae McGill, were recovered from the Tombigbee River in late September following an intensive multi-state search. On Thursday, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) spokesperson Sgt. Reginal King confirmed that both died by drowning. Shardee McGill’s death has been ruled a suicide, while Janae’s death was ruled a homicide.
