Governor Ivey awards millions to help low-income households with heating, cooling costs

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced that she has awarded grants to assist low-income households.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) shared the news on Tuesday, Dec. 23. They say the grants will enable 18 community action agencies to provide emergency assistance to help low-income Alabama residents cover the costs of heating or cooling their homes.

“The cost of heating a home during the coldest parts of winter and cooling it during the hottest parts of summer can pose a challenge for those who are most vulnerable and have extremely limited incomes,” Ivey said. “These grants will ensure that help is available to those who need it most during extreme weather.”…
