MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDNews) — A group of Buddhist monks and their loyal dog, Aloka, walked through the heart of Montgomery on Tuesday as part of the ongoing Walk for Peace, a 120-day, 2,300-mile journey from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., aimed at promoting peace, loving kindness and compassion.
The walkers marked Day 59 of the journey with a Peace Gathering that drew a large crowd of supporters in downtown Montgomery on Dec. 23. Participants joined the monks along several historic and civic landmarks, including the Union Station Train Shed, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, Court Square Fountain, Montgomery City Hall and the Alabama State Capitol.
