Councilman pushing for standardized regulations following deadly Montgomery apartment fire

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Amid claims from residents that smoke detectors failed to activate during a deadly fire at Montgomery’s Woodley Terrace apartments, Councilman Oronde Mitchell, who represents that area, is pushing for standardized fire safety regulations for apartment complexes.

The Montgomery City Council has been considering a similar standardization ordinance since the summer, without a focus on fire safety.

“Safety also includes fire, so we will make sure we add those smoke detectors, we will bring Montgomery Fire and Rescue on this team so we make sure they know their part,” Mitchell said…
