Buddhist monks’ 2,300-mile walk for peace passes through Montgomery, echoing Civil Rights history

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A group of Buddhist monks passed through the historic streets of Montgomery this week, marking Day 59 of a 2,300-mile cross-country “Walk for Peace.”

The monks began their journey in Texas and intend to finish their trek in Washington, D.C. On Tuesday, the group walked in silence through Alabama’s capital, a city synonymous with the American Civil Rights Movement.
