OCAP awarded grant to help low-income households with heating, cooling costs

On Dec. 23, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced that she has awarded more than $43 million in grants to organizations across the state to assist low-income households with home energy costs during the winter and summer months.

The grants will go to 18 community auction agencies across the state to provide emergency assistance to help low-income Alabamians cover the costs of heating or cooling their homes.

“The cost of heating a home during the coldest parts of winter and cooling it during the hottest parts of summer can pose a challenge for those who are most vulnerable and have extremely limited incomes,” Gov. Ivey said. “These grants will ensure that help is available to those who need it most during extreme weather.”…
