Alabama pizzeria’s ‘Slice of Life’ program marks 5 years of feeding those in need

For more than five years, an Alabama business, with the help of its community, has been making sure those in need of a meal get fed, one big ole’ slice of pizza at a time.

Ian Walters, the owner of Bibb Street Pizza Company in downtown Montgomery, said their “Slice of Life” program, which offers a free slice of pizza to the homeless or those simply in need, first got its start in 2019.

Walters credits Patrick Aitken, a regular at the NY-style pizza joint and well-known community member who now serves as the outreach coordinator for the nonprofit Mercy House, with jumpstarting the program after he made the suggestion by offering to buy a few slices in advance for anyone who might be unable to do so for themselves…
