The average price of gas across the U.S. is expected to drop to $2.97 per gallon this year, according to a new analysis from GasBuddy. That would be about 13 cents cheaper than 2025 and the lowest national average seen since 2020.
Analysts say prices already showed signs of easing late last year. By the end of 2025, the national average dipped below $3 per gallon as refineries increased output and oil prices declined.
