Severe weather risk upgraded for Alabama on Sunday

The severe weather risk for south Alabama has ticked upward for Sunday — at the same time north Alabama will be dealing with a winter storm.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has increased the severe weather risk from a Level 1 (marginal) out of 5 to a Level 2 (slight) for all of south Alabama and expanded the Level 1 risk area farther to the north into central Alabama.

The National Weather Service said damaging winds are the main concern with any stronger storm that develops, but a tornado or two will also be possible, as well as heavy rain…
