Are we safe yet in Alabama? Fear is not a sustainable foundation: op-ed

What happened on Saturday in Minneapolis should stop all of us in our tracks.

During a protest, a man named Alex Pretti was killed by federal immigration officers. Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse and U.S. citizen, was killed just weeks after another federal immigration officer fatally shot Renee Good, an American mother of three. Their deaths did not occur in isolation. They happened amid an expanded and aggressive deployment of ICE and CBP that has brought militarized enforcement into public spaces, escalating tensions and leaving immigrant communities and U.S. citizens alike feeling vulnerable and afraid…
