Arctic Air Brings Extreme Cold Warning & Wind Advisory to Alabama

Across much of the South and Southeast, residents are contending with varying degrees of winter weather conditions.

Extreme Cold Warning Details

Closer to home, arctic air has invaded Alabama, prompting an Extreme Cold Warning by the National Weather Service in Birmingham. This warning is going now through Sunday, February 1, at Noon.

The Extreme Cold Warning risk area includes Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.

West Alabama communities can expect dangerously cold wind chills as low as 3 degrees above.

Possible hazards include “Frostbite and hypothermia, which can occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Pipes could freeze and burst,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
