MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A new volunteer program is seeking people 55 and older to help Montgomery students with their reading skills.
The Foster Grandparents Program, which started nationwide about 60 years ago, is just getting started in Montgomery. Volunteers work with children from K4 through 5th grade for about 45 minutes a day.
“We do the background checks, train them, get them ready to go to schools for about 45 minutes a day,” said Foster Grandparents coordinator Rhonda Watson. “They will work with children on their reading from K4 – 5th grade.”…
