ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) – A Friday night incident in Slapout left one man dead and another charged with murder, according to Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin.
The sheriff says the events that led up to the deadly altercation started around 10 p.m. with two vehicles that were parked next to each at a gas station locally known as The Girl’s Store.
Franklin said a man name Joel Austin Whitus, 42, got out of one of the cars and went into the store. Aaron Mays, 23, of Eclectic, whom the sheriff said was a passenger in the other vehicle, claimed Whitus hit the vehicle he was sitting in with his hand.
The sheriff says a confrontation between the two men started when Whitus came out of the store and Mays asked about him hitting the car…
