Alabama courts face funding crisis, trial delays, layoffs without $32 million budget increase, chief justice warns

Alabama legislators face consequential decisions on state budgets this year, including how to provide adequate funding to the state court system.

Alabama’s Unified Judicial System requested $217 million from the state General Fund for the 2027 fiscal year, which starts October 1.
