ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) – A woman has been arrested on contraband charges after allegedly trying to smuggle items to an inmate at Elmore Correctional Facility over the weekend.
According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, Kamala Nishea Lewis was charged Sunday with promoting prison contraband first, after officers caught her trying to pass contraband to Johnathan Thomas, a 44-year-old inmate, during visitation hours.
Lewis was booked into the Elmore County Jail, authorities say. Thomas is expected to be issued a warrant for the same charges.
According to ADOC, Thomas is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence for a robbery in Marshal County…
