Jury selection begins for case against man accused of kidnapping, killing Aniah Blanchard in east Alabama

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (WIAT) — In 2012, Safiyah Yazeed wrote a letter to Montgomery District Court Judge Sharon Yates about her son, Ibraheem.

At the time, the then-22-year-old man had been charged with trying to kill a police officer by ramming the car he was in with his own car. It wasn’t the first time Ibraheem Yazeed had been in trouble with the law and it wouldn’t be the last.

In her letter, Safiyah Yazeed took on the tone of a concerned parent, explaining how her son needed professional help and that his own psychological issues had placed him in “wrong places.”…
