Protestors urge Gov. Ivey to halt execution of man who didn’t pull trigger in deadly robbery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Charles ‘Sonny’ Burton is scheduled to be executed Thursday for his part in an armed robbery that turned deadly. However, he did not pull the trigger.

Protestors gathered outside of the governor’s mansion in Montgomery Monday morning to urge Gov. Kay Ivey (R-Alabama) to spare Burton’s life.

Burton was convicted and sentenced to death for his part in the 1991 robbery of an AutoZone in Talladega. Doug Battle, a customer, was killed inside of the store. Burton says he was not in the building at the time of the shooting…
