Alabama lawmakers want to define ‘grooming’: ‘We throw the net too broadly’

In recent years, the word “grooming” has become politically charged on social media, often used in ways detached from its clinical definition, which refers to a predator deliberately developing an emotional bond with a child to build inappropriate connections both online and in person.

Across social media and in public debate, critics have increasingly labeled their opponents as “groomers.” The term frequently surfaces in disputes over teaching certain topics in schools or providing counseling to LGBTQ minors—activities that are not considered predatory behavior.
