Alabama gubernatorial candidate Doug Jones urges state leaders to temporarily suspend gas tax

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WHNT) – Alabama gubernatorial candidate Doug Jones is calling on Gov. Kay Ivey and other state lawmakers to temporarily suspend Alabama’s gas tax.

Jones said suspending the state’s 30‑cent gasoline tax and 31‑cent diesel tax for 60-90 days would put more than $100 million back into the hands of Alabamians.

“Alabama families were already struggling to make ends meet before being hit with the dramatically escalating costs at the gas pump that we’re seeing now,” Jones said. “This is one area where state leaders can make an immediate difference, especially as travel increases for spring break and Easter.”
