National Kidney Month emphasizes habits for healthy kidneys

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – March is National Kidney Month, a yearly event designed to raise awareness of kidney health and chronic kidney disease. Kidneys work hard every day to filter waste, balance fluids, and help control blood pressure.

1 in 7 U.S. adults have kidney disease, and 90% don’t know it, according to the National Kidney Foundation, which estimates Kidney disease affects 37 million people in the U.S. and is responsible for about 58,000 deaths every year.

Approximately 12 people die every day waiting for a kidney transplant. Today, 90,000 Americans are waiting to find a donor for a lifesaving kidney transplant…
