Tyson plant spill verdict: Alabama man awarded $70 million for flesh-eating infection

A jury in Walker County has awarded $70 million to a man who was injured following a 2019 wastewater spill from the Tyson Farms plant in Hanceville.

“I’m truly thankful for the jury’s decision and I hope this verdict will prevent incidents like this from happening in the future,” said Mark Griffin, who sued Tyson Farms in 2020.

After a four-week trial, on Friday a jury sided with Griffin, who sued Tyson Farms and Hydraservice, Inc. after he was hospitalized following the spill. The jury awarded Griffin $25 million in compensatory damages and $45 million in punitive damages…
