Execution date set for man on death row despite jury’s recommendation

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Governor Kay Ivey has scheduled the execution of a man on death row for later this year, despite a jury’s previous recommendation of life without parole.

Former mayor, city council candidate arrested for voting fraud, Attorney General says

On April 15, Gov. Ivey announced the execution time frame for Jeffrey Lee, to begin at midnight, June 11, and end the following day, June 12, at 12 a.m. Lee will be put to death by nitrogen hypoxia.

According to court documents, on December 12, 1998, Lee broke into Jimmy’s Pawnshop in Dallas County, armed with a shotgun. During the course of the attempted robbery, he shot the owner, Jimmy Ellis, and Elaine Thompson, killing both, and wounded Helen King…
