MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) — Gov. Kay Ivey on Monday welcomed 132 correctional officer trainees who are set to graduate Thursday from the Alabama Department of Corrections Academy, thanking them for choosing what she called demanding law enforcement work.
Ivey met the trainees on the front steps of the Governor’s Mansion, offering congratulations and appreciation ahead of their graduation.
“Serving in any corrections system is tireless, serious law enforcement work, and I commend these 132 graduates for answering the call,” Ivey said. “When I took office in 2017, I made it a priority to address the longstanding challenges facing the Alabama Department of Corrections. Staffing has been a key component, and I am proud we have made tremendous strides to recruit and retain these officers. It is an honor to personally congratulate the men and women graduating this week.”…
