BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good morning and happy Sunday! You may want to hold on to an umbrella if you plan on being outside today.
Temperatures this morning are in the upper 60s and lower 70s with a cloudy sky. We are tracking widely scattered showers this morning, but another round of rain and storms are likely as we make our way into the late morning and early afternoon hours.
A weak area of low pressure will move to the northeast spreading rain with some embedded thunderstorms into central Alabama during the day. Plan for wet weather before 4 p.m. with high temperatures warming up into the upper 70s. Winds will continue from the south at five to 10 mph. We could see additional delays in the SEC Baseball Tournament as Arkansas takes on the Georgia Bulldogs at 1 p.m.
The Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal Risk – threat level one out of five – for southeast Alabama and into south-central Georgia. The main threat will be damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. Severe weather remains very low across our area thanks to cooler temperatures and a cloudy sky.
The main concern for central Alabama today is the potential to see heavy rain and isolated flooding. If we see a lot of rain this afternoon, that will likely lower our chances to see rainy weather this evening. We will likely hold on to a 30-40% chance for widely scattered showers this evening with temperatures in the low-to-mid-70s. It could be good news for those attending the Black Crowes and Whiskey Myers show at the Coca-Cola Amphitheater…
