Second Harvest seeks volunteers to pack 300,000 summer food boxes for kids

As communities nationwide mark the lead-up to America’s 250th birthday, Second Harvest Food Bank is joining a community service initiative by ramping up its summer hunger-relief efforts in Northeast Tennessee.

This week, the organization pushed for more volunteers to help pack boxes for its summer food program. Second Harvest plans to distribute boxes of food for kids at dozens of sites across the region this summer.

Each week, families will receive a box that includes both breakfast and lunch for seven days. The food bank’s goal is to distribute 300,000 boxes this summer…
