Gov. Lee signs laws on charter schools, deadly force, commercial drivers, drink spiking

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Gov. Bill Lee signed several high-profile Tennessee bills into law Friday, including measures dealing with deadly force protections, commercial driver regulations and drink spiking prevention.

One newly approved law expands the circumstances in which a person can use deadly force to protect property.

Under the legislation, Tennesseans may be justified in using deadly force if they reasonably believe it is immediately necessary to prevent crimes such as burglary, theft, arson, robbery or certain forms of property damage and believe there is no other way to stop the crime or avoid serious bodily injury.
